How often is it best to wash your hair?

How often is it best to wash your hair. Everyone’s hair texture is different so there is no specific amount of time, but experts say that it is best to wash it every few days.

It is not necessary to wash your hair every single day, because it strips the scalp of natural oils, dries out your hair, and can irritate the scalp. Those who have extremely fine hair, someone who sweats profusely, and people who live in humid places are those who may wash their hair every day, says experts.

Dr. Anna’s Rosemary Mint Shampoo is made with natural, toxin-free ingredients and does not contain any of the following harsh chemicals. There are no parabens, petrochemicals, synthetic fragrances, and colours.

It’s important to understand the toxic ingredients found in most shampoos…

Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate or Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES):

These ingredients are what gives shampoo the foaming action, but they are harsh cleaning agents that can damage the hair and make it brittle and creates more frizz, as well as also causing hormone disruption. These sodium and ammonium laureate sulfates are known cancer-causing ingredients, as well as liver damage

Parabens:

These are the preserving ingredient in shampoos that make the product last longer on the shelf and in your homes.  The reason this ingredient is so toxic is that it mimics the function of hormone estrogen and can increase the risk of breast cancer.  It is very likely that our skin absorbs them even if we just apply them to our skin/scalp.

Fragrance:

The problem with the ingredient “fragrance”, is that there is not much regulation about what can be added under that one category. The ingredients in fragrance can clog the lymphatic system and induces organ system toxicity, as well as there has been links to endocrine disruption.  These are synthetically made with a blend of a variety of toxic chemicals.  Some fragrances can affect the scalp and lead to hair loss.

Formaldehyde/Quaternium-15:

this is a carcinogen that is absorbed through the skin.  This ingredient can also be released over time through a chemical process from other ingredients in shampoos, such as quarternium-15.

Sodium Chloride:

this is what is used to make the consistency of your hair thicker; however, the side effect of that can cause dry and itchy scalps, and can also eventually cause hair loss.

Dimethicone:

This is a silicone oil that can instigate a dry and itchy scalp, as well as irritation.  There is a plastic-like barrier on the skin that traps sebum, impurities and bacteria within it.  It can irritate the eye and is also non-biodegradable, as well as cause much damage to the environment.

Selenium Sulfide:

this is another cancer-causing agent – in lab tests on mice, tumours developed on them due to the selenium sulfide.  This product is often found in anti-dandruff shampoos and try to find a more natural cure for your dandruff.

Colour:

try to find shampoos that don’t have any color in them, because these colours are made out of coal tar or petroleum … we don’t want to be putting those on our scalp where they can make it into our blood stream!  You can identify shampoos that include synthetic colour by the terms ‘FD&C’ or ‘D&C’.
