Laser Hair Removal by Dr Anna

Here at Dr. Anna Medical Aesthetics we’ve had ample interest in laser hair removal for all skin types and colours, as well as different hair textures.
There are three types of laser wavelengths that are used to remove hair: the Alexandrite laser (755nm), the Diode laser (810nm) and the Nd:YAG laser (1064nm).
Alexandrite: The Alexandrite aims at the bulge of the hair follicle and is very effective for superficial embedded hair which includes pale skin types, blonde hair, eyebrow hair, and hair on the upper lip.
Diode: The Diode aims at the bulge and the hair bulb and goes deep into the hair follicle. Thereby moderate melanin absorption makes it safe for darker skin types and is perfect for arms, legs, cheeks and beards.
Nd:YAG: The Nd:YAG enables deeper penetration within the hair follicle, and aims at the bulb and the papilla of the hair. This wavelength has even lower melanin absorption which makes it safe for those with dark skin types. This wavelength is ideal for places such as head hair, armpit hair, and the groin area.
What is special about our laser?
As an integrated solution, this laser is the newest technology which combines the benefits of all 3 wavelengths, achieving incredible results contrasted with any mono-wavelength approach on its own. This laser has a proven safety record, it is virtually painless, and it works on all skin types, including tanned skin. This top-of-the-line edition combines 3 laser wavelengths into a single innovative handpiece, simultaneously targeting different tissue depths as well as anatomical structures within the hair follicle. By combining the absorption and penetration levels of three different wavelengths, along with the treatment coverage, comfort and low maintenance of the diode laser, this laser achieves the safest and most comprehensive hair removal treatment available today. Most hair removal devices use one specific type of laser wavelength; this one uses all three which all have unique characteristics and different absorption levels of Melanin.

How long does laser hair removal last?
Laser hair removal is permanent when the hair follicle is destroyed. When the hair follicle is only damaged, the hair will eventually regrow. There may be hair regrowth within a few months/years, and then one can opt for a touch-up treatment.
Is this procedure painful?
This special laser is not painful due to its new technology. Simultaneous contact cooling prevents burns and allows for a more comfortable treatment. The specialized applicator allows you to treat large areas in less time than before.

How many treatments does the average person need?
4-6 treatments helps to accommodate the hair’s growth cycles. Studies show that this treatment would be better to be called permanent hair “reduction”, rather than permanent hair “removal” – results vary on the person.
Should I shave before a laser?
Yes, it is best to shave before a laser, otherwise the entire hair may absorb the energy and heat, and there will be less energy reaching the base of the follicle.
