Laser hair removal works by using bright flashes of light to target the melanin in hair follicles. Melanin is the pigment that gives hair its colour. When the melanin absorbs the light, the emission converts to heat, which damages the hair follicle. Over the course of several treatments (approximately eight treatments), the accumulation of heat-damaged follicles ultimately stops producing hair.

What to expect
Laser hair removal usually requires two to eight treatments. The interval between treatments will vary depending on the location of the treatment. On areas where the hair grows quickly, such as the upper lip, the treatment might be repeated every 4 to 8 weeks. On areas of slow hair growth, such as the back, the treatment might be every 12 to 16 weeks.
For each treatment you’ll wear special goggles to protect your eyes from the laser beam.
The laser technician will clean your skin, apply water soluble gel and press a hand-held laser instrument to your skin. You might feel some discomfort, such as a warm pinprick.
Treating a small area, such as the upper lip, will probably only take a few minutes, whereas treating a larger area, such as the back, might take more than an hour.
Post-care instructions
Wash treated areas gently with mild soap and pat dry for the first 48hours.
Do not use makeup, lotions, perfumes and deodorant for 24 hours after your treatment.
Do not exfoliate for a week and stop all hair removal methods except shaving.
Avoid sun exposure and tanning beds for at least one week.
